MINUTES:
UAA, ASCDE, Student Services Sub-Committee meeting: January 31, 2005
Meeting held, via audio conference.
Members present: Barbara Markley, Ramona McAfee and Donna Schaad. Carol Swartz was unable to attend.
Agenda
I.
Establish a “mini” mission statement for the sub-committee.
Ensure equitable student support services access to all students, regardless of course delivery method or location. Advocate for student services issues and their resolution.
II.
Identify critical student services issues to bring to ASCDE and/or the SW DE Steering committee.
The following recommendations were made:
a)
Spread the word to key players (i.e. registrars, advisors, financial aid folks), university-wide, about student services issues to be discussed at the March 28-29 SW DE Summit. Explain the various methods of attending/participating (audio and video conferencing will be available). Highlight the importance of their attendance and input.
b)
Market existing student support services – create a page in each semester course schedule book and place it next to the listing for DE courses.
c)
Links to DE be more visible/accessible on each MAU home page. DE should be easy to find.
d)
Develop an on-line pre-registration checklist for students. The idea is to provide a guide to students registering via the web. The questions asked, for example, could mitigate the instances of students registering for courses for which a pre-req has not been met. Ask faculty and departmental advisors, as well as other key depts., to provide FAQ’s to include on the checklist.
In addition to the recommendations listed, an idea to have a “blog” on the SW DE Steering committee’s home page was suggested. The blog would allow for discussion, between interested parties, about student services issues prior to the March DE Summit. Donna is going to check with both Michael Sfraga and Curt Madison to see about the possibility for creating a blog.
Meeting adjourned at 9:25am.
Respectfully submitted,
Ramona McAfee |
