UAA Academic Steering Committee on Distance Education Goals

    • Facilitating development of distance offerings of courses and programs within departments and campuses.
    • Facilitating the development of a comprehensive suite of university services for faculty, staff and students engaged in distance delivered courses.
    • Proposing and clarifying policies and procedures related to distance delivery.
    • Informing the Office of Academic Affairs and the Faculty Senate about issues important to the distance delivery of courses and programs.
    • Communicating the issues, discussion items, decisions and resolutions of the local and statewide distance education groups.

Issues addressed by the committee may include any that affect the development, delivery, quality or attractiveness of UAA distance delivered courses or programs. Examples include:

  • Standards, quality and assessment.
  • Workload for faculty and staff engaged in distance delivery
  • Cost, revenue and budgeting for development and delivery of distance materials, courses and programs.
  • Productivity measures and distribution of effort for different types of delivery
  • Use and sale of distance delivery products
  • Technology needs, uses and shortcomings
  • University services to students enrolled in distance courses.
  • Presentation of distance offerings within the UA system.
  • Transfer of credit and applicability of credit toward certificate and degree programs.
